FAQ

What typically happens during a trauma-informed counselling session?

In a trauma-informed session, we create a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your emotions, body sensations, and experiences at your own pace. We work in a way that reduces the risk of re-traumatization and may use somatic techniques, emotion-focused therapy, EMDR, or nervous system support to work towards healing. We move from intellectualization, to feeling and processing.

Are counselling services covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). Please check your policy to confirm coverage. I also offer sliding scale rates to support accessibility.

What is EMDR therapy and how does it help with trauma?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps process and heal from trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and difficult memories. It works by reducing emotional distress linked to past experiences, allowing you to feel calmer and more in control. Read more about it HERE.

How do I know if somatic therapy is right for me?

Somatic therapy may help if you feel disconnected from your body, stuck in survival mode, or overwhelmed by emotions. It can support nervous system regulation, increase self-awareness, and help you reconnect with your inner sense of safety. Learn more here.
